Their property balance in comparison to many other thermoplastic polymers means PET films are among the most commonly employed substrates within the converting industry.

Properties of PET Films

PET film is comparable and in some instances superior to many other thermoplastic polymers in terms of:

  • Dielectric constant
  • Dimensional stability
  • Elongation
  • Insulation breakdown
  • Melting point
  • Oxygen permeability
  • Service temperature range
  • Specific gravity
  • Tear strength
  • Tensile strength
  • Transmission rate of vapour (water)

The mechanical properties of PET films make them the ideal choice as a substrate for processing (such as, for example, vacuum coating, metalizing or laminating). Their processing tolerance, combined with the fact that they can be engineered to suit a broad range of applications, makes them the perfect substrate for a variety of different applications within industries like, for instance:

ITO Coated Polyester Film

ITO (indium tin oxide) coating applied to transparent PET film renders the film conductive, while maintaining its transparency. The resulting ITO coated polyester film is subsequently suitable as a component for position sensors/ touch screen and a wide variety of other applications, including:

  • Electroluminescent (EL) lamps
  • EMI shielding
  • Electrophoretic displays

ITO Coated Polyester Film by Diamond Coatings

Diamond Coatings can supply a wide range of ITO coated PET films (standard thickness: 175 micron) in sheets (standard size: 600 x 457 mm), rolls (maximum width: 600 mm) or laser cut shapes. Our ITO coated polyester film is available in the following standard resistivity options:

ITO coated PET films can also be supplied with protective films (both surfaces) to aid handling/ fabrication.
