During coverslip manufacturing, in order to prevent sticking caused by stacking flat coverslips, it is common to use very fine glass particles to powder the surfaces. Whilst the glass is cleaned prior to any onward processing, there may be some particulate that can not be seen until viewed under microscopic conditions.
